We went on a Monday morning. Very easy to park and enter the park. We were told.the best way to see the zoo was to take the train to the back and work your way up. This required a little backtracking in the rear of the park, as the back is wider than the front so we found ourselves criss-crossing a bit. There was a wide range of animals, and lots of "new arrivals". Some of the favorites were the red pandas. You could walk through the forest from a suspension bridge and see them in the trees. Also enjoyed seeing the polar bears and others, which you can see from the viewing area under the water. The butterfly exhibit was also nice. The penguins were also a favorite, watching them swim above you from the tube was cool. Several restrooms throughout so you didnt have to go searching. The only negative was the "nickel and diming" by charging for everything like the train ride and giraffe feeding which we've not paid for at other zoos.

This was my 2nd time here and we enjoyed ourselves! The trail is a big circle which made it easy to navigate. Bathrooms all throughout the zoo and pit stop areas to stop and snack and get some shade or rest. I would definitely recommend getting there early, packing lunch or snacks and take bottle water with you as you can refill it along the path. It's a nice place to visit with the family and I like that it's smoke free. We loved the butterfly house too! I got my parking ticket ahead of time and no one scanned it so not sure if some days you can just not pay for parking? I think it would be nice if they had an online scan ticket line so you don't have to wait in the entrance area while others pay. The other thing is most of the animals shade areas are in the back of their living areas so A LOT of the animals were hard to see because they were so far back.

Always a fun family experience over the decades. Every exhibit & entire grounds are very clean & well kept. Amenities abundant & the animals a sure site. All the additions made are beautiful, practical and modern for every age pleasure. Detroit Zoo keeps getting better & better!

It was super fun and there was so much to see, most of the animals were out and active, some taking naps but still visible which was cute. I took the train to the back and still was able to spend 5 hours walking around to see all the different varieties of animals. The inside bird and butterfly exhibits were beautiful. Some experiences had a small fee (like actually small, $2-$4 type small) riding the train, petting stingrays and sharks and others were all worth it. Definitely recommend going there

This zoo is amazing! Try to go to feedings to see the animals in more action. To feed the giraffes you need to pay in the front. The Dino exhibit is a fun add on. Buy your tickets in advance for a discount. Make sure to account for the current construction zones around the area- adds on time for travel.
