The story

About Waverly Hills Sanatorium

Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Louisville, Kentucky, is a former tuberculosis hospital that has become one of America’s most famous reportedly haunted locations. The original facility opened in 1910, while the massive five-story building seen today was completed in 1926 as tuberculosis cases overwhelmed the region. Before effective antibiotic treatments became available, patients could spend years isolated at Waverly Hills, and many died while battling the disease. The hospital eventually closed in 1961 and later served as a geriatric facility before being abandoned. Its history has inspired decades of paranormal reports from visitors and investigators. Reported activity includes shadow figures, apparitions, disembodied voices, unexplained footsteps, moving objects, cold spots, and unusual electronic disturbances. Among its most infamous locations is the long underground tunnel commonly called the “Body Chute,” originally constructed to transport supplies and provide access to the hillside below. Today, Waverly Hills offers historical tours, paranormal investigations, and overnight experiences inside the imposing former hospital.

Super awesome!! I took my mom here for a mother's day gift traveling from Indiana and made a day out of it. We took the historical tour which lasted about 2.5 hours from start to finish. We were the first of the tour group to arrive and waited at the gate outside until it was opened to let us in. My tour group was about 40 people plus the 2 guides. The tour took us through what I felt like was most of the building, we saw the body tunnel and all 5 floors inside. We took lots of photos hoping to catch a ghost but unfortately had no luck looking back on our photos, also did not have any ghostly experiences on our tour. 100000% worth the $81 I paid for both of us to take the tour. It's an old building in steep decay in areas, so with that there is no air conditioning on 95% of the tour. Do keep that in mind during July/August. I had no issues in July, but many people were fanning themselves through the tour and sweating. Bring a battery hand fan or chinese fan if thats your vibe.

We enjoyed the 2 hour spooky, guided tour. Multiple people had some interesting experiences, including feelings of being touched or followed by unseen forces. The "body chute" tunnel is almost the length of 2 football fields, and although you're only allowed to stand at the top during the guided tour, even strong flashlights couldn't penetrate to the bottom.

Went on a guided tour, building has a lot of history, tour guide was very knowledgeable. But no strange things happened. Was still daylight when tour started and with a lot of people. They do recommend doing staying overnight $75 you can go out on your own and get to see more of the building at your own pace.

Worth the visit! A must see!!! We did the historical tour. You need to buy tickets in advance and they sell out fast. I purchased these tickets 5 months in advance. Lots of walking and stairs. They do have nice restrooms. All of the staff is very friendly.

Great spot to stop if you like haunted locations. This place has a deep dark history and is perfect for amateur and professional paranormal investigators. The staff were very helpful. We ran two hours late and they still made an exception to let us in.
