We just stayed at the Haunted Shanley Hotel this Friday-Saturday for my girlfriendās birthday and it was quite the experience! There are some things that are worth mentioning for the staff and future visitors that I believe will be helpful. First off, we stayed in the Roosevelt room, which is absolutely beautiful! When I booked this room, I had NO IDEA we would have to share a bathroom with other visitors. There is no information of that in the listing which was really an unpleasant surprise - moreso because the bathroom was originally an on-suite to our room! Luckily, there were two bathrooms on our floor, so they werenāt too busy but they also werenāt always available. That information should be included on their booking website but itās clearly not. Secondly, my main concern in an old building was the air conditioning during summer and it was absolutely fine. The room stayed cool with their window units. The linens were clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. Third, there is a STRICT no food or drink policy (other than bottled water) in the sleeping rooms, which is understandable but also annoying. You have to go downstairs to their mess hall to have a meal, drink or snack. When I say strict, I mean it. One of the hosts was aggressively enforcing this policy as we were walking in with our bags. She even asked my girlfriend if a plastic bag that she had her sneakers in had food in it. Like, come on. Lastly, at the end of the night and after a long paranormal investigation, we planned on showering before bed but there were NO TOWELS in sight! There were none in our room, in the bathroom or any of the hallway closets. When you have paying guests staying overnight in a hotel, whether or not thereās a main event like an investigation - this is completley unacceptable. Towels are a basic amenity in an overnight stay. It would be helpful if at check in the staff mentioned that they need to be requested or where to find them. By the time we wanted to shower, it was already too late to ask for them. We tried calling the general number and no one answered. Itās also worth mentioning that check in is at 6PM and check out is at 10 AM. Sharp. We were walking down the stairs at 9:58AM and they made us feel like weāre holding them up. Weāve stayed in a lot of hotels and air b&bās and have never heard of this timeline. The investigation ends at midnight but they encourage you to stay up and continue the investigation on your own, so we decided to end ours around 2 AM. Needless to say, we were very tired in the morning. We made the trip to Napanoch, which took us 3 hours - so giving visitors (that are coming from near and far) some extra time would be greatly appreciated.
