About The Myrtles

The Myrtles is a historic plantation home in St. Francisville, Louisiana, known for its striking architecture, long history, and reputation as one of America’s most haunted houses. The property dates to the late 1700s and has passed through numerous families during more than two centuries of Southern history. Today, the estate operates as an inn, restaurant, and historic attraction, welcoming visitors for overnight stays and guided tours. Its haunted reputation is built around generations of ghost stories and reported unexplained activity. Visitors and staff have described apparitions, mysterious footsteps, disembodied voices, moving objects, cold spots, and figures appearing in photographs. One of the property’s most famous legends involves a woman named Chloe, whose tragic story has become deeply connected to Myrtles folklore, although historians have questioned portions of the tale. Other reports are associated with former residents and children said to appear around the house. The Myrtles openly embraces its paranormal reputation today, offering both historical tours and evening mystery experiences exploring the stories surrounding the estate.

I had a very nice experience at the Myrtles. The property is so pretty! From the gorgeous trees, to the gift shop, main house and restaurant. The staff is outstanding! Everyone I came in contact with was so friendly and happy to help with anything. The history tour guide was so knowledgeable and she genuinely seemed to love the property and her job. My boys loved Ivan the Turkey they had on site and all the paranormal activity attached to the property. The only "none 5 star" thing I would say is our room needed better A/C and lots of critters kept getting in. Also they didn't really have anything posted in front stating it was a room where people actually stayed. So people that were wandering the property kept walking up on our porch and trying to come in our room. Like actively turning the knob and trying to come in. That was probably the only somewhat negative thing I have to say.

What a place! We’re visiting from England and I work for a historic estate called Mapperton at home, so I was really excited to see some old houses in America. We did the ghost tour last night with Charles, who was absolutely brilliant. I loved it so much I came back to do the history tour today with Kelsey, which was also fantastic. So much history and it was all fascinating! We also ate at the restaurant which was a nice change from Po Boys and fried food. Great food and service. I definitely recommend a visit!

My daughter wanted to visit the Myrtles for the first time to celebrate her 13th birthday. We did a daytime tour with Erin today — she was phenomenal! Funny, knowledgeable… kept us entertained and we learned so much. Beautiful grounds and home. We really enjoyed our day. Thanks Erin!

We recently stayed at The Myrtles Plantation, and the experience was unforgettable in the best way. From the moment we arrived, the staff set the tone—they were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful throughout our entire stay. One thing that really stood out was how easy it was to communicate with them. Being able to text with questions and getting quick, helpful responses made everything feel seamless and stress-free. The property itself is beautiful and full of history, but what really made the stay special were the little moments and unexpected highlights. And speaking of highlights… Ivan. If you know, you know. If you don’t—you will. Ivan quickly became part of our daily routine and added such a fun, memorable element to our stay. Morning coffee with him turned into one of our favorite traditions. He has a personality that’s hard to miss, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he becomes an unofficial mascot that guests look forward to seeing—right alongside the well-known Chloe. Between the incredible staff, the unique atmosphere, and unforgettable touches like Ivan, this place offers so much more than just a stay—it’s an experience. We’re already talking about coming back.

I stayed there many years ago when I was living in baton rouge I currently live in Washington I visited on more than one occasion once during the daytime and then once overnight. Ghost tour is not a fake it is 100% in genuine. I highly recommend visiting if you're looking for a thrill in life. Especially if you're drawn to things that are not of life. Even a decade later I still tell people about my times visiting this location. It was one of the highlights of my two years of living in Louisiana.
