The story

About The Marshall House

The Marshall House in Savannah, Georgia, is one of the city’s oldest hotels and a landmark with a history stretching back to 1851. During the Civil War, portions of the building were used as a hospital for wounded soldiers, and it later served patients during yellow fever epidemics that swept through Savannah. After periods of closure and restoration, the historic property returned to its original purpose as a hotel, preserving much of its 19th-century character in the heart of the city’s historic district. Its medical and wartime history has contributed to generations of paranormal stories. Guests and employees have reported unexplained footsteps in hallways, disembodied voices, sudden cold spots, faucets turning on without explanation, and apparitions believed to resemble soldiers or former residents. Some guests have also described hearing children or unusual sounds when no obvious source could be found. Today, The Marshall House openly acknowledges its haunted reputation, combining an operating historic hotel with the ghost stories and folklore that have become part of Savannah’s famously haunted history.

Wonderful stay and outstanding hospitality! I want to give a special shout-out to Clarence, who helped with our luggage and made a great first impression from the moment we arrived. He was one of the friendliest and most welcoming hotel employees I’ve encountered. His positive attitude, helpfulness, and genuine kindness really stood out. It’s employees like Clarence who can make a good stay become a memorable one. He represents the kind of hospitality that makes guests feel welcomed and valued. Thank you for a great experience—we truly appreciated it!

This place was perfect if you love history, mysteries and authenticity. So much of the house has been kept in the past. The old plank hardwoods and the decor. The people who work here are so helpful and friendly. The courtyard/atrium breakfast is a great way to start the day. The comfy beds, chairs and peaceful spirits are great. No complaints. Don't miss the historian in the library with wine and cheese. You will love it.

Stayed here with me partner for 2 nights on a quick getaway. The booking checkin and checkout went smoothly. The room was cozy, cute and clean, we always perform our own cleaning before getting comfy and when we did we did not see a bunch of dirt and residue during our clean up. It was a very well-kept room and checked the cleanliness level we needed. I loved and enjoyed the shower very much. The room was a great fit for two people, we had a Classic Room 1 King Bed. Very comfy to sleep in with plenty space for our luggage. The room came with robs and plenty towels and rags that were not stained nor full of hairs. The staff was AMAZING! Everyone including the valets and breakfast staff were phenomenal and helpful. We felt seen, safe and were treated well. We'll definitely be back to stay here and will encourage our families and friends to stay here during their visits as well. Be sure to take advantage of the Wine and Cheese events they have scheduled at the hotel. We missed them due to our itinerary. We did see part of one with a harpist and that was very special because my partner played the harp growing up. It was indeed a beautiful stay.

Our stay at The Marshall House was truly exceptional and one of the best hotel experiences we’ve had. We arrived late at night and were warmly welcomed by Martha, who was absolutely amazing throughout our entire stay. The hospitality here is truly standout — we always seemed to have everything we needed before even having to ask, from bottled water to fresh towels. The hotel itself is charming, comfortable, and full of historic character. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the evening wine and entertainment were such a wonderful added touch. The location is also perfect, as it is walkable to Savannah’s shops, restaurants, and attractions. While I do wish the breakfast was a bit better, there are so many great breakfast spots nearby that it was easy to go elsewhere. If we’re ever back in Savannah, we would not hesitate to stay at The Marshall House again. We can’t recommend it highly enough.

Went here on vacation for my birthday and my boyfriend’s birthday. There was a mixup with the website when booking our room but Chris was awesome and put us in a regular room the first night and then upgraded us to the Mary Marshall Suite the other two nights. It’s very conveniently located close to many shops, restaurants, museums, and a very short walk to the river. The hotel staff were all amazing. We ate breakfast there every morning and the selection is perfect no matter your dietary preference. The evening entertainment changes every night but there is always a charcuterie board of meats and cheeses to choose from and multiple wines. It’s a very lovely stay.
