The story

About The Drake Hotel

has stood at the north end of ’s Magnificent Mile since 1920 and has become one of the city’s most famous luxury hotels. Alongside its history of celebrity guests, elegant ballrooms and lakefront hospitality is a long-running paranormal legend known as the Lady in Red. According to the story, a woman attending a New Year’s Eve celebration discovered her fiancé with another woman and later died after falling from an upper floor. Guests have since reported seeing a woman dressed in red near the 10th floor and other parts of the hotel. Additional stories include unexplained sounds and unusual experiences in hallways and guest rooms. The Drake remains an operating hotel, restaurant and event venue, making it an accessible historic destination where visitors can experience the setting behind one of ’s best-known hotel ghost stories.

Location and history are the only reasons to stay. The smell of mildew and stale air has my throat and lungs itchy. The bed is worn down. The thermostat doesn't work. Im uncomfortable. The view is beautiful. But I woke up with a head ache from the odor and body aches from an uncomfortablebed. Was hoping to enjoy it more, sad it's not living up to my expectation. The TV remote is an original. I only gave 1 star for service because my room only had decac coffee and when I asked for coffee, cream and sugar for the morning, half hour later they bring it and when I woke up I just saw they forgot the sugar. I'm already to be onto the next destination. I need to go find a cup of coffee and a box of tissues. Update. Staff must have read the review and upon leaving this morning there was a bag of 45 sugars left hanging outside my door. So instead of trying to make the customer happy, the 45 sugar packets feels less like an apology and more like a sarcastic response, which left an even worse impression. I'll go ahead and stock the room for the next guest. It keeps getting worse!! 9:50am housekeeping just WALKED IN my room. Check out is noon. Why would they walk in. I really was excited about a luxury historical hotel on Michigan Ave. Just disappointing.

Whoever has left past negative reviews about The Drake, IGNORE THEM. I came to Chicago this past weekend and everything was simply OUTSTANDING. There were 2 huge weddings, it was Juneteenth, Father's Day, and SO many people they were totally sold out. And The Drake didn't miss a beat. From check in, to room service for breakfast (simply delicious, I had the turkey sausage, egg white, and spinach), to the hotel bar for drinks and one of the best lobster rolls I have had in awhile, they were firing on all cylinders. Every staff person i encountered was so helpful and pleasant. Coming from The South, I was not expecting that. My room was cute and boutique-like. From beginning to end, staying at this historic property was the highlight of my weekend. And the weather was simply gorgeous. It rained Sunday, but I flew home, so no worries haha. If you want a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ luxury experience, please do yourself a favor and book The Drake Hotel. Everything was just fabulous.

This hotel is a landmark, but has become an afterthought. I stayed here because my family booked here. My room was a shoebox. And looking out my window was a rooftop court yard and I was on the first floor. The bathroom was almost too small for one person. No water was provided in the room. I needed to sign a card and there wasn’t a pen in the room. I truly felt that this hotel doesn’t care anymore. You check in and you get a room and nothing more. And the room is outdated and old. We were booked here for an upcoming wedding and we have already changed to a different hotel. A true old legend is no more. My last night there I came back to have my room flanked by dirty laundry.

My spouse and I stayed here for our mini-spring break…..I really liked at ALOT!!! We had the Vista Suite, which as an absolute BLAST. You can see the glorious, glamorous and grandiose history of the hotel all around you at every step! They even have the signatures from numerous celebrities. These range from Muhammad Ali to Princess Diana Must see and Highly recommended!! Now the only serious feedback I could offer is the following: - Some SERIOUS renovations are needed throughout the entire building. Once they do this, The Drake will be a MAJOR COMPETITOR with its surrounding neighbors such as The RITZ Carlton and Waldorf-Astoria - The water pressure is SERIOUSLY out of control! Best way to describe this is LITERALLY hot and cold as that’s what it was. The fluctuations got so bad, we got burned on our backs. - Food options are terrible! Did you know an illustrious hotel such as The Drake doesn’t even offer breakfast except only weekends?! They also have a restaurant called The Oak Room, but the experience left ALOT to be desired!! Overall I would still recommend the place and give it a 5 star for the amazing management they have from Tate and German. There were also NUMEROUS AMAZING people such as Liberty and others who worked the front desk.

Mixed experience at the historic hotel. building itself is beautiful. lobby, first and second floors are well decorated. grand, classic feel at reception area. Nice chandeliers throughout, including smaller ones in rooms Housekeeping did a good job, room was clean and well vacuumed. Unfortunately, guest room needs significant maintenance. Shower drain backed up and filled with water while showering even after we reported the issue. No rubber anti-slip mat in the tub, and with water not draining, I slipped twice. Mattress sagged badly in the middle and was a worn out one. No glass drinking cups, just paper cups. electrical outlets were hidden behind the bed, difficult to plug in chargers without moving mattress. Hallways had an old-carpet odor, and the air vent in our room had a heavy buildup of dust and lint, it had not been cleaned in quite some time. Hotel has beautiful historic architecture and plenty of character, but the guest rooms need better maintenance and updating to match the feel of the common areas.
