The Darkness is a great Halloween season visit. The animatronics are amazing! Everything is staged well and the addition of a haunted bar area is a great place to hang out with other haunted house fans. I think it is well worth the extra cost. We met some great people. The only thing I found disappointing was the lack of more actors available to up the scare factor. We wound up going through parts of The Darkness without jump scares from actors hidden and waiting for us. Otherwise it is amazing and I will definitely be back for this Halloween season.

There is a lot of hype around this place - often regarded as one of the top haunts in the country. I was very excited to visit and unfortunately I was underwhelmed. First, I understand how much time, money, passion, and effort has been poured into this place. I respect that a lot and don’t mean to diminish the hard work at all. The biggest problem is that the entire house is very one note. You enter a scene, encounter an oversized animatronic, and move on to the next. Wash, rinse, repeat. I quickly became numb to the repetition. Yes, the set decoration was impressive with lots of detail, but it all felt same-same in tonal execution. Also, there were too many TV screens in my opinion - they bring zero scare factor and pull me out of the immersion. I wish there were more variety of scares - claustrophobic areas, blackout areas, tricky areas, etc. There was a lack of cleverness. Again, the scenes were high quality but at no point did I think “Wow, that was unexpected and clever.” There seemed to be few actors on the night I went (03/27/2026) - leaving a lot of dead space in between seeing actors. I’m glad I got to experience this haunt, but I won’t be returning anytime soon. Again, I mean no disrespect, just offering my honest opinion. If you enjoy animatronics and large props, this haunt is for you. If you like a cohesive storyline and scare variety, I would travel elsewhere.
