The St. Louis Cathedral is absolutely breathtaking. We were fortunate enough to visit while it was open and explore the inside, and it was even more beautiful than we imagined. The stunning stained-glass windows, magnificent ceiling paintings, and intricate details throughout the cathedral were truly awe-inspiring. It has such a peaceful atmosphere, and knowing the incredible history behind the cathedral makes the experience even more special. There is also a lovely gift shop with some beautiful keepsakes to remember your visit. I would highly recommend stopping by if you're visiting New Orleans. It's an outstanding place that left a lasting impression on us.

Do not come at noontime when Mass is starting or being held. We ventured back around later and was able to respectfully visit inside. Lit a candle for remembrance. Explored the artifacts, including a copy of an illuminated bible. Beautiful church with lots of sacred art; so glad we stopped in despite the challenges of parking and construction (spring 2026). A small gift shop is available.

A stunning landmark in the heart of the French Quarter, the St. Louis Cathedral is both historically rich and beautifully maintained. Open to the public during regular hours, it is fully accessible and welcoming to all visitors. The architecture is breathtaking, and a peaceful interior offers a quiet moment away from the bustle of Jackson Square. Whether you are drawn by faith, history, or aesthetics, it is worth stepping inside. The surrounding area is lively, with street performers and artists just outside, but the cathedral itself remains serene. It is a must-see for anyone exploring New Orleans.

Beautiful cathedral in Jackson square. Before heading in be sure to read a quick wiki entry on St. Louis. He is featured heavily on the stained glass (which was beautiful). Cute book store as you enter. They offer tours or you can quietly explore the sanctuary in your own.

St Louis Cathedral is definitely a staple in the landmarks of NOLA. I have seen it multiple times during the day yet coming out for the superbowl light show was memorable. The light show happened every 30 minutes on the hour in the evening this week & we wanted to be sure to catch it on one of the last nights it was offered. Upon arriving, it was nice to see the community come together and hang out while watching the show.
