About Pry House Field Hospital Museum

A complementary site to the National Museum of Civil War Medicine's main location, this museum focuses on field medicine as it was practiced at the Battle of Antietam. Located in the historic Philip Pry House, the exhibits include a re-creation of an operating theater, interpretive panels and objects relating to the care of wounded and the effects on the civilian population in the area, and information on the history of the Pry House.

Super cool place even though we didn't get to go in the house. They had to move everything to the barn while doing renovations to the house......so would have been awesome to see that, but thankful they still offered the exhibits in the barn. The guide was also super kind, informative and easy to talk with.

Wonderful museum for Civil War enthusiasts and family outings. Be sure to visit on a day when Civil War reenactors are present. Staff is highly knowledgeable. Bookshop has the latest books about Civil War medicine. The garden contains 1860 herbles.. It's maintained by a pharmacist. Schedule a visit when he is doing a presentation! well worth it. There's not a lot of shade. Bring bottled water and snacks. Bring sunscreen and window shade for your car. Lots of good restaurants And farmers markets in the area.

We were on a tour to follow the Footsteps of Clara Barton. We were mostly Red Cross Volunteers from all over the country. I enjoyed the exhibits here. I feel sorry that the original owners had to evacuate their beautiful home and farm. Tracey gave a great tour of the home and the barn. I can only imagine being wounded and evacuated in one of the horse drawn ambulances. I felt Tracey was on the battle field in another life and came back just to show us around the battle field and the Pry house. She shared such amazing stories. I plan to come back and explore this some more.

It took us a while to get inside the building (talked about that on our blog post), but once we got in wow! Amazing place and if you didn't know about it, you might miss it. If you visit the Antietam Battlefield, make a point to go looking for this place.

This is definitely a stop you want to make if you’re in the area, especially after you’ve visited the Antietam National Battlefield. It’s an immersive museum that does a great job preserving history.
