We did a historic tour. Our guide was wonderful, very informative and so fun!! No rush at all and plenty pictures. I'll be going back with friends. P.s. The blackberry mule was the best thing since prohibition ended.

The experience we had at the Old Baraboo Inn was not only amazing it was just a super enjoyable time as well. We stopped in just to take a look and maybe have a drink. We were greeted at the door by the owner, Shelly. She began telling us about the fascinating history of the building - as a tavern, brothel and inn. She then invited us to the ghost adventure experience they were having that night. Being semi-believers/ semi-skepetics, we weren't sure what to expect. Shelly and her staff treated the topic reverently and never made it hokie. The staff told us about prior paranormal experiences people have had and where the hotspots for "catching a ghost are" (essentially the entire building. Shelly said that one mirror in particular is a spot where they see phantom figures. The tour itself was much more enjoyable than I would have expected with everyone trying their hand at summoning some spirits. I was absoluteky shocked when I was reviewing my photos later and found 2 pictures out of all the ones I had taken that showed something odd in the aforesaid mirror. Did we catch two different ghosts? The one image appears to show a man in a fedora sitting at the bar. The other seems to show a phantom head with facial features. Neither of these things appear in any other photos I took of the mirror. Who knows? But a great place for you and your friends to go and have a wonderful evening. And, the special drinks are phenomenal. I give the Old Baraboo Inn my highest possible recommendation. 5 ghosts out of 5. ๐ป๐ป๐ป๐ป๐ป

We visited The Old Baraboo Inn on Saturday October 12th, 2024, and I feel obligated to share our experience, because all reviews that I saw of the establishment, prior to visiting, were great, so imagine my surprise when we had a bad experience.
Our mother-daughter group does this every year, and we always pick a different direction from home. We do our research, we get firsthand suggestions, etc. We heard so many amazing things about the Baraboo area, especially The Old Baraboo Inn.
We were greeted and welcomed upon walking in the door, earlier than they opened, which we were pleasantly surprised by, as it was storming outside. The folks behind the bar were very courteous, outgoing and fun to chat with.
The service itself, however, was incredibly slow. I completely understand that you are only open 1 night a week, for 6 hours, but, when a drink only has 4 ingredients, and you have to refer to the recipe sheet after each addition, I'm going to judge. Our group of 5 had 4 of their Specialty Halloween drinks, and one of us had whiskey on the rocks. The Halloween drinks were tasty and cute. The whiskey was INCREDIBLY watered down. As a bartender, I know what color whiskey is supposed to be, and it's not supposed to be damn near clear.
When that issue was brought to the female bartender (she may be the owner, I'm not certain), she didn't seem very surprised, and replaced it with a Captain Morgan and seltzer. Again, the supposed-to-be dark rum, is more of a translucent beige before the seltzer was even added to the glass.
We were very hopeful for a pleasant experience, and would have stayed much longer, had both of the drinks not been watered down. When we visit new places, we are always looking to socialize with the locals and those that run the establishments, because we always learn more things and get to know other people, but this was just a very disappointing stop.
Our group of 5 (consisting of 1 bar owner, 3 bartenders and a retired bartender), are always looking for spooky and fun things to do, and this experience really didn't hit the mark.
I truly hope that everyone else has a great experience at The Old Baraboo Inn, we just did not.
