Incredible detail either saved or restored throughout. The building fell victim to neglect and vandalism but extra care has been provided to bring back its luster. Shiny marble floors and pristine walls and ceilings offer a backdrop for special events. Book the tour to hear about the background and depth of the restoration. Highly clean restrooms. Not all of the building is accessible since several floors house staff from Ford and other agencies. There may be plans to install a hotel on the top floors and an adjacent building converted into a restaurant. It is no longer a landscape eyesore but a jewel in Detroit's downtown resurgence. The tour is walkable with only a few steps. It is an example of history worth saving. Located on a 30 acre campus with flowering gardens. Tour reservations are required. Security is stationed on site.

Michigan Central Station is one of Detroit’s most impressive landmarks and a remarkable example of historic architecture. Thanks to Ford, the extensive restoration has transformed this once-abandoned station into a beautifully restored building while preserving its original character. The quality of the restoration work is exceptional, and the exhibits throughout the station do a great job of highlighting its significance in Detroit history. The fact that there is free admission makes it an easy and worthwhile stop for anyone visiting the city.

One of Detroit’s most impressive restoration projects and a must-visit destination in historic Corktown, Detroit’s oldest surviving neighborhood. Did you know this iconic train station opened in 1913 and was once considered the tallest rail station in the world? Its stunning Beaux-Arts architecture was designed by the same architects who worked on New York’s Grand Central Terminal. Today, the building serves as the centerpiece of Michigan Central’s innovation district, combining history, technology, culture, and community in one remarkable space. Visitors can freely enter the beautifully restored Grand Hall and lobby areas, browse the public spaces, and enjoy the retail and coffee located inside. Guided tours are available for a payment and provide a deeper look into the station’s fascinating history and restoration. Keep in mind that access to certain areas may occasionally be restricted during special events or private functions. Be sure to spend some time in Roosevelt Park, the historic green space directly in front of the station. The park offers excellent photo opportunities and provides a perfect vantage point to appreciate the scale and grandeur of this Detroit landmark.

Detroit is a MUST visit city!! Just don't leave the downtown area!! You WILL get robbed or worse!! Detroit is also the most broken down, boarded up city I have even been to. I worked in New York City years ago and got around all 5 boroughs 2days a week, ever week for nearly 5 years I've seen the brick, the gutters, the back ally dungeons that are all over NYC, Along with many other cities. None of them could even hold a candle to Detroit! This is why I give it 4 stars. Like I said, Detroit is a city to visit no doubt, just don't leave downtown. Once you get a taste of " Greektown" with it's casinos!! You ain't gonna wanna leave anyway!!

We were lucky enough to get tickets for one of the few Candlelight concerts at the station. It was amazing to sit in that space and listen peacefully, in a place I thought I would never see inside of before it got torn down. The restoration is amazing and I can't thank Bill Ford, Jr. enough for saving this gorgeous piece of architecture and Detroit's history. * I tried to do before and after photos but I don't have exact angles. That's a project for the future! *
