We loved this! The view of the home from the water is as stunning as James F.D. Lanier intended. Indiana State Museums did a wonderful job redoing and decorating the home and the architecture was stunning. Our tour guide was fantastic, energetic and passionate about the home, history, and family. It was a great experience, the my favorite was the giant tree in the gardens 😀

I took my son on the day for free tours. (Go to the Visitors Center across the street for the tours, we didn't know this until we got there) We did have a bit of a wait for the tour, which is guided, but enjoyed that extra time by the river. The visitors center staff was very friendly and the tour guide was entertaining and knowledgeable. We both thoroughly enjoyed the tour, which lasted about 1 hour. I highly recommend the Lanier Mansion if you love history and historical landmarks. I also recommend getting tickets in advance if you can, unless you have time to roam around downtown Madison since the tours are on a schedule.
