Came here to visit and pay respects to an icon in cinema. Katherine Hepburn has a wonderful final resting place and the cemetery she is in is also a gorgeous place.

An expansive park-like cemetery with the graves of Katharine Hepburn, Gideon Wells, Samuel Colt, and J.P. Morgan. Well worth a visit.

I’m giving 1 star only because the cemetery itself is historic, beautiful, and well maintained. Unfortunately, my experience with the front office and Maryann, a board executive, has been misleading and extremely disappointing. I purchased a plot for my father’s cremains and personally delivered them to the cemetery on January 12, 2026. I selected the “at the cemetery’s convenience” option, meaning they would schedule the burial. At the time, I was assured my father would be laid to rest by the following week which should have been no later than around January 22. That never happened. When Connecticut experienced a major snowstorm around January 26–27, it was used as the explanation for the delay. I understood and did not complain. However, today is March 11, and my father’s cremains still have not been buried. When I followed up, Maryann was rude and dismissive. Instead of addressing the issue and offering to get my dad laid to rest, she told me I could come get my money back and that, in the meantime, my father would remain “in a cabinet" until maybe Memorial Day. That response was incredibly disrespectful and deeply upsetting. Families deserve honesty, accountability, and compassion when trusting a cemetery with the remains of a loved one. Sadly, that has not been my experience here.

Another of Connecticut’s beautiful and historic cemeteries, not far from the center of downtown Hartford. Cedar Hill is large and you are advised to stop just inside the gate to get a map of the grounds, even with the map it can be a bit tricky to find the area you may be looking for. After a few visits, the layout will become familiar. Scores of large historic monuments, some with family names you’ll recognize from all over Connecticut. I took time out to clean the markers for each member of Katherine Hepburn’s family, but left her marker untouched because of the little things visitors had placed there — coins, sea shells, and other trinkets.

It’s a cemetery, but the fall foliage is awesome. Very peaceful, with great history all around
