This was our second time staying at the Graduate in Providence. This is a fabulous property. The building is absolutely gorgeous and the price is unbeatable; we actually found it the best choice for our ā€˜budget’ trip to Newport. The rooms are massive and well-maintained. Although a bit cramped, the bathroom had one of the best showers I’ve seen in a hotel. I personally liked the lack of valet and use of an adjoining parking garage, as I didn’t feel compelled to tip anyone each time I was retrieving my car (especially late at night). The only negatives I would note: (1) the AC unit is quite loud and was frequently making metallic ā€˜banging’ noises when on. (2) While I understand the security team is likely contractors, they need some serious training. When trying to figure out parking, one of the ā€œguardsā€ got pretty exasperated and seemingly became upset I hadn’t said hello to him first. Not a good start. Then in the evening, a ā€œguardā€ presumably didn’t see me walk in (or was just absent from their post) and started, embarrassingly, screaming at me to come back. Ultimately this issue was minor, and I would definitely return, but just noting for improvement.

Hotel is extremely dated and not exactly in a charming way. Rooms are very old and the AC has clearly not been updated as the room got hot at night. A floor fan was provided to counteract this. Bathroom space was a bit crammed and shower was not the best. Staff were great and location was close to downtown restaurants and bars.

This hotel does not disappoint providing a wonderful aesthetic and amazing historic atmosphere. However, there are problems with the building, which are understandable due to the age of the hotel. We checked in and the heat was not working in our room. We were moved and upgraded to a suite with no problem- it seemed to be the only warm place in the hotel. However, the rest of our stay was one little inconvenience after another and the staff was not very understanding. Outlets not working, heat in the fitness center not working and many machines out of order, iffy water temperature and pressure, filthy air vents, etc. The aesthetic of this hotel definitely comes at the cost of comfort and some basic expectations.

Wonderful location. Discount on parking from 45 to 35 with hotel scan tag. They will charge parking to the room. Easier when leaving the garage. ** AC system is seasonal fyi** the reason is due to it being a historical building. So if you like a cooler room, it may be best to think of another spot. No room service and it's instant coffee available in the rooms. Ice machines aren't on each floor and there aren't vending machines. The bedding and furniture are lovely and won't have any issues trying to sleep at the end of the day. Wonderful pillows and bedding. They do have a fan in room for a extra breeze.

The location of the hotel is absolutely amazing that being said that was about it. First off the bathroom toilet stopped flushing 3 different times and maintenance had to be called 3 different times each time throughout our stay to fix it which was very annoying because the first time it took about 3 hours for somebody to come and fix it. Then the hotel tried to charge us for breaking said toilet like it was our fault. It wasn’t clogged it just literally would not flush. Then on top of that our key cards stopped working to our room and we had to wait around an hour to even get back into our room. Then on top of that we apparently set off a smoke alarm detector even though neither of us smoke….. but thankfully it was ā€œwaivedā€ because it could’ve been an error. There was no words of getting any money back or anything due to the 4 different inconveniences of our stay here. Would not recommend this place to anyone sadly. Very upsetting for a Hilton.
