I'm incredibly biased here because the Flatwoods Monster has been one of my favorite cryptids since I saw it in a book as a small child. I didn't let anyone I was traveling with know, but this was the entire reason for my West Virginia vacation. Specifically, my bucket list item was to get one of the Flatwoods Monster lanterns they sell here. It sounds stupid, but to me it's something incredibly unique that you can't really get anywhere else. As far as the museum goes, it's very low key and feels a lot more "DIY" than the Mothman Museum. There are a lot of paintings and little "Braxxie" collectibles on display. I kept dreaming about how I'd improve the place, but really, a lot of the charm is just how homemade the place feels. If you're in the area you absolutely should stop by.

The Flatwoods Monster Museum is a wonderfully quirky and memorable stop, full of personality and local charm. The staff is genuinely friendly and even pointed us toward the Bigfoot Museum just down the street, which was a thoughtful touch that made the visit feel especially welcoming. Inside, the museum is packed with interesting displays, artifacts, and stories connected to the Flatwoods Monster legend, and there’s plenty to explore for anyone who enjoys cryptids, folklore, or small‑town history. The museum has a distinctive, homegrown character that adds to its appeal. While a professional curator could probably offer a few ideas to enhance the presentation, the museum’s current style has a warmth and authenticity that fits the story it’s telling. It feels like a community sharing its own legend in its own voice, and that charm is a big part of what makes the visit so enjoyable. It’s a great stop for anyone passing through Braxton County, whether you’re a cryptid enthusiast or simply someone who appreciates unique roadside gems.

Small, older museum dedicated to the Flatwoods Monster. The story is fun to read and seeing all the different things created to hype him up is pretty cool, some folks have a great imagination! Whether he actually existed or not, the hype and frenzy of the time was real and the museum captures that with its showcases of the history. The old building it's housed in is stunning, would have loved to see more of it! It's pretty old and dusty, needs a little more relevance to stick around. If you're in the area stop by but I don't recommend going to far out of your way unless you're a legend hunter or have a Monster Checklist!

The flatwoods monster reputation has attracted visitors from all over the world. The building was built in 1930, and originally was an apothecary and soda shop. The original hardwood floors remain as well as all the wonderful woodwork, cupboards, drawers and tile work. The ceilings are beautiful. The museum offers typical t-shirts but also CD's and books specific to the monster. The interior has some wonderful replicas of the monster that are more than life-size that make forvwonderful picture taking! It's a wonderful experience, and the owner is extremely friendly. Pricing of anything within the museum is reasonable. The location of the museum is in downtown Sutton, and it's surrounded by a variety of old buildings that are interesting. There's a little bistro within a very short walking distance of the museum if you feel like getting something to eat. Parking is on the street and can be a little bit challenging to locate if you're there during the busiest times which would be on weekends and holidays. The street parking is free. NOTE additionally, throughout the town of Sutton, there is Flatwood Monster acknowledgements such as a giant Flatwood Monster chair that you can sit in for a great picture taking opportunity! As well, some signage and other Flatwood Monster novelties that you wouldn't expect to come across! The owner of the museum made all of these exterior novelties! A great effort by him that makes the Flatwood Monster experience larger and extends the fun!
