⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3.9/5) Update Note: After applying our full HauntNighters rubric, Dead Land's score improved from ⭐️⭐️⭐️½ (3.5) to ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3.9), reflecting stronger marks in atmosphere, actor performance, and overall Haunt Night experience. [This review reflects our final visit to Dead Land Haunted Woods during its last operating season in 2025.] Dead Land Haunted Woods closed its final season by delivering a fun, family-friendly experience with strong commitment and an engaging atmosphere. This event was a great option for a relaxed Haunt Night, offering more laughs and visual engagement than intense horror, and it will be missed as a local favorite. Attractions & Scares: Dead Land offered three distinct attractions, each leaning more into fun themes than high-intensity horror. The Portal (#1) stood out, featuring a creative fairy tale theme with several unique scenes. This attraction also housed the night's best scare moments, including a perfectly timed Beetlejuice jump scare and an incredible Wendigo stilt actor—the biggest highlights for pure scare factor. The Lodge (Slasher) and CarnEvil (Clown) were enjoyable, but most attractions relied heavily on humor and engaging actors rather than jump scares, fitting the event's family-friendly marketing. Atmosphere & Immersion: The venue created a fun, energetic atmosphere. Even on our late-night run on Halloween, the energy of the actors was still high and committed. The wooded setting provided a natural, immersive backdrop for the three attractions, and the overall vibe was less about terror and more about a communal, festive experience. Costumes & Effects: The costuming and makeup were designed for theatrical impact and fun engagement. While the set pieces were effective, the star visual element was the impressive use of performance art, most notably the towering, detailed costume of the Wendigo stilt actor in The Portal, which demonstrated a high level of quality and professionalism right up until the end. Scareactors & Energy: The cast was excellent—engaging, friendly, and totally committed to the 'fun' side of scaring. They clearly understood the event's family-friendly mandate. We appreciated that even in the final hours of the final season, the actors were interacting with guests and keeping the atmosphere light and lively. The high-energy performances like the Beetlejuice encounter were definite highlights. Staff & Guest Experience: The venue ran smoothly, and the offerings were fair. We missed the escape game, but the overall organization of the woods was clear. At $40 per combo ticket, it felt slightly on the pricier side given the focus on humor over high-intensity scares. However, the available food and drink options were decent and fairly priced, which was a huge plus for a date night. Hauntnighters Takeaway: Dead Land was the ultimate low-stress, fun date night for couples who preferred a themed experience over extreme horror. It was a well-loved local haunt that will be missed. It provided a great lesson in quality, family-focused entertainment that successfully created a lively, memorable night out. Final Verdict: Dead Land Haunted Woods successfully concluded its final season by delivering a high-energy, fun, and visually creative experience that prioritized engagement over fear. While the price point was a bit high for a family-focused haunt, the quality of the top attraction (The Portal) and the committed, humorous actors made this a memorable 3.5-star experience and a fantastic piece of local haunt history.
