Visited this historic prison and was genuinely impressed by how well it’s been preserved. Built in 1811, it offers a chilling look into the early justice system in New Jersey. The stone architecture is beautiful, and the audio self-guided tour was packed with intriguing stories, from infamous inmates to daring escapes. You can feel the history in every cell block and corridor. The staff were knowledgeable and clearly passionate about keeping this important site alive for future generations. It’s not your typical tourist stop, but if you're into history, architecture, or true crime, it's a must-visit. Definitely wear comfortable shoes, and bring a light jacket—it can get chilly inside those old stone walls! Self-guided tours are only $5 per person and you can opt for the audio tour for $3 extra. They are only open Thursday through Sunday so plan accordingly.
